The stretch of Route 1 running through New York isn’t particularly beautiful, but the dazzling city lights more than make up for the eyesore.In general, Route #1 simply takes longer to travel because it does go through the center of many small towns, causing you to stop and start, allowing pedestrians to cross, etc. Therefore, the rule of thumb for using Route #1 during heavy tourist season in Maine (the height of which is July 4), plan for heavy/delaying traffic--and--do plan extra ....
